Contact Lenses in Pediatrics (CLIP) Study

Children and teens can benefit from contact lenses

There are plenty of hurdles growing up in an ever-changing world. Let’s make sure kids can see all the changes clearly.

CLIP Study Overview

Children and teens can benefit from contact lenses

In the Contact Lenses In Pediatrics (CLIP) Study, researchers from three leading schools of optometry concluded that children should be offered contact lenses as a treatment for refractive error as routinely as teens.

The CLIP Study’s 169 participants – 84 children ages 8 to 12 and 85 teens 13 to 17 – enjoyed significant improvements in their quality of life after being fitted with contact lenses. Chair time for fitting each group was similar, with children taking a little more than 10 minutes longer than teens – primarily for insertion and removal training.

  • Dramatic improvement in how they feel about their appearance and participation in activities
  • Good eye health during the study with contact lenses

Always rely on your professional expertise to judge each young patient’s maturity level and the degree of parental support before deciding whether a child is a good candidate for contact lens wear and can follow your recommended wear and care instructions.
